The red marked space are indoor dead spaces and blue marked are outdoor dead spaces.
this drawings tries to see how intimate spaces in terms of scale , proportion and shadow have been formed by proximity of two build forms, extension to a build form and interconnections of their openings.
DESIGN CONCEPT
When a cluster of built forms comes together, they form interstitial spaces like niches, narrow alleys and various kinds of in-betweens. These spaces are very intimate and cosy because of their shade and scale when compared to the heights and widths of two or more vertical and oblique elements coming together. This experience of inhabitation is very calming. Sadly in our surroundings, such spaces lose their potential and are often dead and idle.
The design will focus on crafting the built form of such spaces in interfaces of open-open, open-closed, closed-closed and a blur. As Charles Correa quotes in his essay a place in the sun, "architecture of warm climate should be a transition between shade to shaded."
DESIGN PROCESS
The process started with analyzing shade conditions on site throughout the day and diagramming how various vertical and oblique elements could form shade to shaded transitions in sectional plane.
